Here’s How I Learned to Play Guitar

From time to time I have people ask me, "how can I learn to play guitar." So, without getting to technical and layered, this can be a starter outline for the process. It can later be adjusted to suit your learning style. Remember this is a starter outline of how I would approach learning guitar initially.

Learning to play guitar can be a daunting task, especially if you don’t have any musical background or natural talent. But it doesn’t have to be so intimidating. There are many ways that you can learn to play guitar without knowing how to read music notation or having any musical talent.

This is going to be a very high-level overview of how I think learning the instrument should go. The first step is to understand the basics of the instrument. You should familiarize yourself with the different parts of the guitar, such as the neck, headstock, strings, and frets. You should also learn the basic chords that are used in most songs. Knowing the basics will help you understand how to play the guitar and how to progress in your learning.

Next, you should look into learning some of the easier songs to play on guitar. YouTube is a great resource for finding tutorials on how to play certain songs. It’s best to start with songs that use basic chords so that you can get comfortable with how the guitar works. You can also look for songs that are played using only three chords, such as “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” by Bob Dylan.

Once you’ve learned the basics and a few songs, it’s time to start practicing. Start by playing a few songs that you’ve learned and then move on to more difficult ones. You can also practice playing scales and exercises that will help you develop your finger dexterity. As you practice, you’ll start to develop your own style and find what works best for you.

Finally, don’t forget to have fun. Playing guitar is a great way to express yourself and have a good time. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things. As you continue learning and playing, you may even find that you have some natural talent that you didn’t know you had.
